We possibly snoozed in the wrong position or remained in bed too long. It might be due to a work out with greater intensity or duration of time. If hurt muscles are actually joint pain it could be osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis usually increases in intensity as we grow older. The outcome is worn cartilage diminishing the cushioning that is necessary within the joints. Joint troubles may not be as chronic as osteoarthritis. You might have merely overused the elbows, knees, or other joints. When muscle knots are the problem then myofascial releases through deep massage is the answer.
Are medications the answer? My response is no unless you can take aspirin. Prescription medicines can cause constipation. Ibuprophen reduces swelling, however, the medical world surmises that too much use leads to liver and kidney problems. My belief is that if it is man-made stay away from it. Some advisers protect themselves by counseling that we go to a doctor. Many physicians are in cahoots with pharmaceuticals so I don’t have much confidence in them. I only rely on doctors when I have severe injuries.
I was most impressed with two things when I had back surgery. My physician’s prescription for speedy recovery was to walk the halls of the hospital the same day of the operation. In the past bed rest was suggested. It is now believed that this will lead to inactivity which becomes problematic for hurt muscles. Dr. Fry also advised that I should increase my vitamin C intake to the point of developing diarrhea. From there cut back to 75% of the amount. Protein is also believed to speed healing of hurt muscles.
One of my favorite adages is, “an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of medicine.” I believe in stretching before a work out. Some reason that an easy warm-up is all we need. Possibly a blend of both would be sensible. Always stretch out after a workout.
Sound advice is to ease into any routine. Abrupt exertion is not what the body is designed to do. This is particularly true when lifting weights. Lifting properly will increase strength, however, the body can’t take too much, too soon. The hurt muscles therapy tool will usually be the outcome.
